The Regular season is coming to a close and with the playoffs right around the corner, teams and players are looking to play at their highest level. With the season at its final stretch, a few players in the league exceeded expectations, not only with dazzling stats, but putting their respective team in title contention. The MVP Race has narrowed down to a small handful of players, but these select few are who I think will end up with the hardware.
LeBron James - Miami Heat
'11-'12 season : 26.5 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 6.5 apg
LeBron James is not only having one of his best seasons but is having a historic season. He is shooting over 53% from the field, and has dramatically improved his post game and footwork which makes him that much more dangerous. James is Mr. Do It All for the Miami Heat. He is their team leader in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. He also has the Heat in prime position to claim another Southeastern division title and a top 3 seed in the Eastern Conference. LeBron is always in the running for the MVP because he can make everyone around him better including all-stars Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade.
Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles Lakers
'11-'12 season : 28.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.6 apg
When the Lakers got rid of Lamar Odom, made a coaching change in Mike Brown, and have had multiple rumors of shipping out all-star forward Pau Gasol. Everyone expected a down season not only for the Lakers but for Kobe Bryant as well. Yet the Black Mamba did not panic and is having a sensational season. He is the leagues leading scorer and if his scoring keeps up, he will be the oldest player to become the scoring champion (age 33). He is carrying LA on his back by putting the Lakers in a position to win the Pacific over the Clippers. Bryant has also played through all sorts of injury and has not missed a game yet this season. He is leading the league in 40 point games this season and has not dissapointed the Laker Nation.
Kevin Durant - Oklahoma City Thunder
'11-'12 season : 27.5 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 3.5 apg
The Thunder were that young team on the rise a few seasons ago making the playoffs as an 8 seed and never looking back since. Led by the leader and one of the most deadliest scorers in the game, Kevin Durant. Durant is having his best season as and has his OKC Thunder currently in first place in the West. He has improved every aspect of his game and his leadership ability as well. KD has made it clear that the Thunder are legit championship contenders by beating up on teams like the Heat, Lakers, Bulls, and Magic.
Honorable Mentions for the MVP Race :
Kevin Love (Timberwolves), Tony Parker (Spurs), Chris Paul (Clippers), Dwight Howard (Magic)
Tony Parker of the Spurs |
Good Luck to each one of the players and their respective teams heading into the playoffs and beyond.
