Here are my top 5 power fowards in the Western Conf. in the NBA Today. (from 5-1)
# 5. We have the 7 foot Spaniard, Pau Gasol, Los Angeles Lakers (
2011-12 Season
PPG | RPG | BLKPG | |
---|---|---|---|
16.6 | 10.7 | 1.3) |
What can't this guy do for Lakers. He is the 2nd option to Kobe Bryant. He is long, very skilled with his footwork, can finish with both hands, rebounds trememdously, a terricfic inside and outside passer, runs the floor well and can shoot from the perimeter. His numbers are slightly down from previous years, but everyone from Fans to GMs relize he is playing with a uncertainty that he will not remain with the Lakers. Even teammate Kobe Bryant has came out and ripped the Lakers management for putting Pau through trade talk .With all that being said Gasol can still play at a very high level and can easily be number one on this list. By the way I think hes gotten over the whole "soft" label now a days.
# 4. Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks ( 2011-2012 Season
PPG | RPG | 3pt% | |
---|---|---|---|
19.4 | 6.6 | 28.6) |
He is the Closer for the Dallas Mavericks and one of the best scorers/shooters in the NBA today. Dirk finally proved himself by knocking off the Blazers, Lakers, Thunder in the West playoffs and taking home the 'ship in the 2011 NBA Finals vs the Miami Heat. He has one of the best post up and face up games in the league with his patened one-legged fadeaway which seems unguardable to even the best defenders. Dirk also gives defenses nightmares not only from his inside game but his outside game as well. He can step back and knock down the triple or take an awkward looking shot and turn it into a three-point play. Even though he is starting off slow in this shortened season, Dirk has really picked up his game recently by putting up over 23.6 ppg and shooting the triple at over 36%. He has also been voted an all-star reserve for this years All-Star game in Orlando.
# 3. First time All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge , Portland Trail Blazers ( 2011-2012 Season
PPG | RPG | FG% | |
---|---|---|---|
22.3 | 8.3 50.4) |
LaMarcus has become one of the leagues rising stars. He has taken the leadership role for the Blazers since the departure of Brandon Roy. At 6'11, Aldridge has developed his inside game and has one of the best fadeaway jumpshots. Not known for his great strentgth down low or athleticsim, Aldridge uses footwork and crafty-ness to score. He was Snubbed out of the All-Star game in 2011, but this year he proved to the league that he deserves a spot by shooting over 50% and almost 23 ppg.
#2. The Lob City Mayor Blake Griffin , Los Angeles Clippers
(2011-12 Season
PPG | RPG | ASTPG | |
---|---|---|---|
21.2 | 11.3 2.9) |
Arguably the most explosive basketball player in the NBA today, Blake Griffin puts on a show everytime he touches the ball inside the paint. He can finish with anyone in the league, (see picture) . He has improved on his shooting and his ball handling skills from last year. He strikes fear into opposing teams eyes with his dunking ability, Along side CP3, Blake is looking to have an even better year than his ROY campaign in 10-11. He is an All-Star Starter for the west this year and is still on the rise. Although he will not be competing in this years dunk contest. Griffin will still be cleared for take off. It was a tough descion putting Blake at number 2 but if he continues his play through out the year and in the future this guy will not only be on top of a list like this, but he could be a lead canidate for an MVP down the road.
#1. Kevin Love , Minnesota Timberwolves (2011-2012 Season PPG 25.5 RPG 14.2 3pt% 35.3)
The Rebounding Machine is number 1 for a bunch of reasons, For one, he is the face of the franchise for the up and coming T-Wolves. Love grabs anything that is near him, he recorded the most 20-20 and 30-30 games last season. Next to Dwight Howard, Kevin Love is the next best rebounder in the game today. Love has improved at every aspect of his game. He has expanded his shooting range beyond the arc and his inside game has gotten better as well. Love came into this season in great shape which makes him much more mobile. He can alsostretch the floor well which gives problems to any defense. He is also 3rd in the league in 4th quarter points. With a much improved Wolves team lead by Love, they can give opponets a tough time night in and night out. He might not be flashy but Kevin Love gets the job done.
